Summary

'It's impossible to read this without becoming ravenous!' -- Nigella Lawson

'It is as infectious as it is delicious, as funny as it is insightful。 The only reason to put this book down, is to go cook and eat from it' -- Heston Blumenthal

From award-winning actor and food obsessive Stanley Tucci comes an intimate and charming memoir of life in and out of the kitchen。

Before Stanley Tucci became a household name with The Devil Wears Prada, The Hunger Games, and the perfect Negroni, he grew up in an Italian American family that spent every night around the table。 He shared the magic of those meals with us in The Tucci Cookbook and The Tucci Table, and now he takes us beyond the recipes and into the stories behind them。

Taste is a reflection on the intersection of food and life, filled with anecdotes about growing up in Westchester, New York, preparing for and filming the foodie films Big Night and Julie & Julia, falling in love over dinner, and teaming up with his wife to create conversation-starting meals for their children。 Each morsel of this gastronomic journey through good times and bad, five-star meals and burnt dishes, is as heartfelt and delicious as the last。

Written with Stanley's signature wry humour and nostalgia, Taste is a heartwarming read that will be irresistible for anyone who knows the power of a home-cooked meal。

I loved this book, but I love all things Stanley Tucci。 He’s as charming in his writing as he always is on film。 I disagreed with one thing though, calling out the prices at Per Se, because how much would you pay for one of the greatest meals of your life??? Otherwise it was perfection。

The man, the myth - the Stanley Tucci。 This has sort of confirmed I'd quite like him to be my fancy Uncle who makes me feel sophisticated。 What a brilliant, delicious, dry-as-a-decent-martini。Off to make a bowl of pasta。 The man, the myth - the Stanley Tucci。 This has sort of confirmed I'd quite like him to be my fancy Uncle who makes me feel sophisticated。 What a brilliant, delicious, dry-as-a-decent-martini。Off to make a bowl of pasta。 。。。more

Absolutely endearing- especially the many puns (“intended and achieved”) and self aware name dropping (“I’ll pick them up later”)。 I desperately want to go over to Stanley Tucci’s house for dinner。。。

Excellent storytelling that engages the readers imagination。 It awakens the senses and stirs a wanderlust to visit the places and eat at those tables。 You may find yourself planning a shopping list to try the recipes, many of them glorious in their simplicity。 There are tidbits about the filming and acting industry and some memorable celebrity episodes。 It is fascinating how he finds the theater and restaurant scene being very similar, chaotic in the back and the appearance of calm and control i Excellent storytelling that engages the readers imagination。 It awakens the senses and stirs a wanderlust to visit the places and eat at those tables。 You may find yourself planning a shopping list to try the recipes, many of them glorious in their simplicity。 There are tidbits about the filming and acting industry and some memorable celebrity episodes。 It is fascinating how he finds the theater and restaurant scene being very similar, chaotic in the back and the appearance of calm and control in front。 A real treat to read and sure to please foodies as well as those who are not。 。。。more

Audiobook read by author was a delightfully surprising book。 It made me chuckle, laugh out loud and tear up, and it made me hungry。 I think I’ll have some pastor dinner。

Well this showed me I know nothing about food, even though I'm a quarter Italian and German and make homemade dinners six times a week。 Lol This was just as funny and enjoyable as I expected。 Loved it! I have long harboured the belief that Stanley Tucci is my soulmate and were it not for the fact that his wife Felicity is also clearly meant for me, if we ever met he would fall madly in love。 This book proves it to me。 Tucci is a gifted story teller and his passion for food and life spills out onto the page making this book impossible not to love。 It’s as charming as the man himself。Reading his book is pure joy - food, films, family and a whole chapter on the martini。 What more can one possibly I have long harboured the belief that Stanley Tucci is my soulmate and were it not for the fact that his wife Felicity is also clearly meant for me, if we ever met he would fall madly in love。 This book proves it to me。 Tucci is a gifted story teller and his passion for food and life spills out onto the page making this book impossible not to love。 It’s as charming as the man himself。Reading his book is pure joy - food, films, family and a whole chapter on the martini。 What more can one possibly want or need? 。。。more

Stanley Tucci is such a wonderful storyteller。 I thoroughly enjoyed listening to him recount moments throughout his life and how different dishes were connected to them and conveyed such fond moments of connection。 Food really does have such a power and ability to bring people together and offers so many opportunities to learn about another's life and experiences and this memoir really highlights these ideas。 There was just the right balance of humor sprinkled into his stories and he was able to Stanley Tucci is such a wonderful storyteller。 I thoroughly enjoyed listening to him recount moments throughout his life and how different dishes were connected to them and conveyed such fond moments of connection。 Food really does have such a power and ability to bring people together and offers so many opportunities to learn about another's life and experiences and this memoir really highlights these ideas。 There was just the right balance of humor sprinkled into his stories and he was able to really capture my attention and make me feel connected to his stories。 Overall, I think this is an extremely well crafted memoir。 。。。more

Great read! I’ve read many culinary memoirs and they traditionally begin with childhood memories of a mother’s or a grandmother’s cooking。 I don’t mind that this is a pretty standard trope because it nearly almost always brings me to tears knowing that those sweet memories are such a treasure when we grow up。

I really love Stanley Tucci, even more now。 This book is like a cozy, warm blanket, and makes me want to travel, eat, and cook。

This book will make you H U N G R Y。 The descriptions are flawless, and I easily could envision what would be an amazing Stanley Tucci cooking show。 His explanations of how food connects him to people were beautiful, and it made me want to grab all the people I love and make a massive pasta dish。 I laughed, cried, and got hungry while reading。 Great memoir!Thank you to the publisher for sending me a copy after the ALA conference。

This is a great oral history and cookbook in one from one of The USA's greatest character actors。 Great stories go with the recipes and are utterly enjoyable! He has a tiny bit of machismo, I'll explain later, but it doesn't really surface often。 Most remember him from, 'The Devil wears Prada,' and 'Julie and Julia' both with Meryl Streep。 My favorite is, 'Big Night' which is a great segue to Taste。 Stanley loves good food, particularly Italian food, since his grandparents on both sides hail from the Calabria region of Italy。 (watch his show, a tour through Italy, currently on HBO Max。)This book is Stanley's life through food, from his childhood, as a young actor in NYC, through marriage and children, and even on movie sets。He talks about all of it and includes recipes, good ones。 My galley didn't include photos, but I would bet the published version will, and I can't wait。Oh, the bit about machismo, in Stanley's last chapter he talks about his grueling bout with cancer。 He had a cancerous tumor at the base of his tongue, in his throat, which started as a pain masquerading as a toothache。 Or so he thought。 He did go to the dentist, in the US and London。 The London doctor said it might be cancer and gave him specific instructions on what to do next。 Guess what, he waited six months! I know。 I'm calling him out here only to prevent someone else from doing the same。 A good reader friend pointed out that this was probably anxiety, and not just a guy avoiding the prognosis。 He’s right of course, and I mistook it for machismo, which was totally incorrect。 Fortunately, things worked out in the end, but after two years of surgery, chemo, pain, and a long recovery。We are glad you made it Stanley, and we love you。 Your book is wonderful, and I highly recommend it。 Thank you Edelweiss and Gallery Books for the egalley! 。。。more
